Stopped for a what turned out to be a very dissapointing visit. Didnt bother staying for a feed as the service was below average and the drinks too expensive for what we got.

Deserves to be much busier than it is. Cracking, basic back street boozer with a very impressive beer selection, lovely scratchy vinyl sounds and friendly service.

Narrow 18th C property on the main shopping street that has been a coffee shop and pub for centuries. Now run as a bar. Has rooms and outside tables. Real log fire in Winter. A choice of two ciders on tap, and many more bottled.
Maybe not the best place in the evening for 'romantic couples - said to be very lively in the evenings; but being a 'bar' and not a pub then presumably is geared to the youngsters. Some of the sweary noisy young males we saw in the afternoon can be off-putting. Two large TVs were thankfully not on when we were there.
No food but the host does not mind you bringing a take-away in.
The host is great to chat to.
A real find - strongly recommend.

I didn't stay here but popped in for a drink. Friendly, affable staff and nice locals who were quite helpful with restaurant recommendations. Accepted my American credit card without issues.

Landlord was really lovely and welcoming, talking about the local area and asking about our day.
It's the kind of place I can imagine would be a great little local pub, unfortunately we were just visiting.

Very friendly local pub. We had a good time and a couple of good laughs too.

Really nice man serving but sorry the food was appalling. Lasagne and con carnie tasteless, frozen cheap garlic bread, low range oven chips. A hair in the burger. Hot chocolate was tasty and the coffee decent. Toilet filthy, I was prepared to leave but my family wanted to stay… bad choice.

New Landlord and sons. Ian was very nice. Alex and son are doubly so...with some excellent ideas to revitalize this lovely local . New Menu to follow...as is 5stars...I've suggested pickled eggs for starters... Agree?

Now this is a place to enjoy!
If you want a pint and a bite to eat, this is the place to be. The landlord Ian runs a good establishment, with all the necessary measures in place for this Covid stuff. He effectively polices it as well, with anyone who pushes the guidelines swiftly reminded of their choices (comply or leave!)
It is frequented by locals, so that's always a good sign.
There is a standard pub menu of dishes at very reasonable prices
